Computers in the Libraries:

Library Web Computers

Princeton's Library provides more than two hundred networked computers in libraries across campus for access to the Main Catalog and electronic resources, including databases, full text electronic books, and e-journals. Many Library workstations are connected to managed printers, which require a netid to print. Guest users who do not have a netid, should visit the Firestone Library Access Office to obtain a temporary one that can be used for the duration of their visit. Branch users can speak with branch library staff to obtain a temporary printing id.

Library Web Computers Plus

The Library also has some computers available with the features described above, along with Microsoft Office software. These computers can be found on the first floor of Firestone Library, and they are also available in the Stokes Library, in Engineering, Psychology, Astrophysics, Psychology, Geosciences, and the Marquand Library of Art and Archaeology.

OIT Computing Clusters

The Office of Computing and Information Technology (OIT) provides groups of computers for student use at several campus locations. These workstations offer the Microsoft Office suite of software, in addition to e-mail, Internet connections, and many other software packages. OIT computing clusters are located in Firestone Library on B Floor and in the Brush Gallery outside the Fine Library. Another cluster is adjacent to the Library Reading Room on the third floor of the Frist Center. Laptops

Several campus libraries have laptops that you may borrow for in-building use. Ask at Firestone Reserves, or at the Engineering, Marquand, Music, Psychology, or Stokes libraries. Machines are equipped with the Microsoft Office suite of software and cables (long and short) for connecting to the Internet at worktables throughout the library.

Many seating areas in Firestone Library and in the branch libraries, have data ports and electrical outlets conveniently at hand so that users with laptops can both use them and connect them to the campus network. Scanners

One scanner is available in the OIT computing cluster on B Floor of Firestone Library. In addition, high end Library Project Workstations with a broad array of graphics, web development, and project software are available in the Architecture Library, in Marquand, and in the Engineering Library. These workstations are intended primarily for students and faculty in the departments served by those libraries. For more information click here.

Registering Your Own Laptop or Wireless Access Point Device

Users who bring personal computers or personal wireless access point devices into Firestone Library must register them with the Access Office or with Library Security. At the time of registration, a sticker will be issued that should be placed on the computer or device. When leaving the library, Security will ask to see the sticker and personal identification of the library patron. If the sticker and the identification do not match, the computer or device may be confiscated.
