Application Deadline Date: Open Unitl Filled The Library seeks an energetic, production-oriented person to process approval plan receipts in Turkish. Using the Library’s online system, the successful candidate will search the catalog, the main bibliographic utility (OCLC), download and create catalog records, create holdings and item records, create online purchase orders, and catalog books with LC/PCC and non LC/PCC catalog records as well as selected original cataloging and create name authority records for modern Turkish personal names for the national authority file. Required: In-depth knowledge of Turkish, ability to search and interpret catalog records and understand their relationships, and the ability to edit online records accurately. Computer skills are essential to perform this job. In addition to basic Windows skills (copy/paste, switching between windows, using alternate keys, etc.), the job requires logging into, searching, and manipulating data in several different systems. Ability to do sustained detail work at a computer workstation and operate a system with a graphical user interface requiring use of a mouse. Ability to use a barcode scanner. Must be able to move books from shelf to book truck and vice versa. Reliability and the ability to work constructively with coworkers are essential. Good working knowledge of other Near Eastern languages or Slavic languages is desired. Preferences: A comprehensive understanding of technical services in an academic library environment, especially the acquisition to cataloging process, is highly desirable. The position requires an individual who is able to work accurately and quickly, with a high degree of independent judgment, and capable of prioritizing assignments and performing under the pressure of deadlines. This specialist is responsible for a broad range of e-journal acquisition tasks, with minimal supervisory oversight, performing duties that include preorder searching; vendor selection; order creation in both the Library’s integrated system and electronic resources management system; invoicing; and follow-up on problem orders and service interruptions to facilitate timely access to these high-profile resources. A premium is placed on excellent communication skills because the E-Journal Specialist will be expected to communicate regularly with subscription agencies, publishers, Collection Development staff, and the Digital Resources Coordinator to ensure prompt service and accurate billing. The Library seeks an energetic and detail oriented individual to catalog rare books forming part of the Elmer Adler collections in Graphic Arts. These are historically significant publications documenting the history of books, book publishing, fine-press printing, and printmaking. Tasks include bibliographic searching using the library's integrated system, creating and editing catalog records (including special form/genre terms), and assessing the need for conservation treatment. This position offers the opportunity to work with a unique collection in a dynamic team setting. Requirements: Understanding of cataloging principles and the ability to apply them to diverse materials. Ability to search, create, and edit MARC records. Demonstrated ability to work accurately and quickly with detailed information, and to communicate such information. The ability to absorb instructions quickly and work successfully both independently and under supervision is essential for this position. Application Deadline Date: August 25, 2008 Library Secretary Specialist – Requisition # 0800503 This position provides office support for the Technical Services Department of Princeton University Library, a very busy department of 122 staff organized into 19 units which are responsible for the acquisition of new library material, cataloging of library holdings and circulation of holdings from the main collection. Primary job responsibilities include administrative assistance for management staff, including preparation of reports, gathering statistics, and analyzing data; input and maintenance of staff and budgetary records and departmental documentation; general reception and secretarial duties; and assisting with workload as needed in key operational areas (ordering, receiving, invoicing, and copy cataloging). Required: Excellent office skills, including the ability to work efficiently under pressure and exercise judgment in organizing work assigned by many individuals, along with that generated independently. Demonstrated ability to compose original correspondence, applying accurate spelling and grammar, and to prepare, proof and edit a variety of documents. Experience that demonstrates good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills and excellent interpersonal relations skills. Application Deadline Date: August 27, 2008 Library Office Assistant II – Requisition # 0800508 The Research Collections & Preservation Consortium (RECAP) is a partnership of Columbia University, Princeton University and The New York Public Library formed to jointly operate a high density book shelving facility on the Plainsboro, NJ campus of Princeton University to address the continuously expanding collection needs of the three institutions and provide for prompt high quality service to their remotely stored collections. The facility encompasses four shelving modules, with current accessions of over 6.5 million items; a 25,000 square foot processing center; and cold storage film vault. A courier service provides next business day delivery of requested items from the facility. Alternative delivery options include electronic document delivery and Interlibrary Loan. The facility offers a reading room for on site consultation. Unpack material from truck, assemble and label trays, sort material by size and place in appropriate sized trays, accession material into shelving facility, input material barcode in the inventory control systems and shelve material in shelving modules. Use inventory control system to locate material in the shelving modules for retrieval requests. Retrieve then sort material for shipping. Use the inventory control system to discharge and record where material is shipped. Upon return check material into the inventory control system. The inventory control system will create a list to reshelve material to the appropriate location. Interpret document delivery request. After retrieval - identify item, chapter, section, page sequence, to be digitally copied. Transmit request to user’s email account. Assist with Interlibrary Loan retrieval and shipping. Upon return check into library’s database and ReCAP’s inventory control system then reshelve. Qualifications: High School Diploma with 1-2 years of related work experience. Document warehouse environment experience or library experience preferred. Experience should demonstrate good communication skills, good organizational skills and excellent interpersonal relations skills. General knowledge of basic computer operation. Accurate keyboarding skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, extreme accuracy is important, able to spot inconsistencies. Ability to work independently or in small groups, and or team environments, with rotating tasks. References must indicate excellent attendance and punctuality. Roll book trucks on a variety of surfaces, and operate a pallet jack and hand truck. Required to become certified in the proper use of an automated lift. The individual assists in-person and remote patrons in the use of the Princeton University Archives and 20th Century Public Policy Papers; coordinates and tracks photoduplication and photography orders; trains and supervises students and other library assistants; and assists with exhibitions and other outreach-oriented endeavors. This position is one of two expected to manage routine library operations in the absence of professional staff, and as such is endowed with significant responsibility for daily operations, including building maintenance issues and archival supply orders. The incumbent will report to and work closely with the Assistant University Archivist for Public Services in developing and implementing policies and procedures. Required: Bachelor’s Degree. The individual also participates in the public services operations of the library and supervises the work of student assistants.
