Associate University Librarian for Collection Development
The Princeton University Library comprises a large central library and 15 specialized libraries that are heavily used by an academic community including 6,400 students and 1,100 faculty members. To support the diverse needs of its users, the Library holds some 6,500,000 printed volumes, ranging from incunabula to current imprints, and provides access to many other records of human knowledge, such as ancient papyri and cylinder seals, nineteenth-century literary manuscripts, and recently produced electronic databases and journals. The Library employs more than 300 professional and support personnel, complemented by a large student and hourly workforce. Available : September 1, 2006 Search Committee: (Princeton Access only) Responsibilities: As a member of the library’s senior management group, collaborates on library-wide planning initiatives, program development, and resource allocations. Has overall responsibility for building the library’s collections and for apportioning its $15,000,000 general acquisitions budget. Serves as the primary spokesperson for the collections to the rest of campus and coordinates the work of more than fifty librarians with responsibility for building collections to meet the needs of current and future students and faculty. Has direct responsibility for a staff of six humanities and area studies selectors and five members of the support staff. Seeks to build collaborative projects with peer institutions and represents the Princeton University Library in regional and national collection development arenas. Qualifications : MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. Graduate degree in a field relevant to Princeton’s academic programs strongly preferred. Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in an academic or research library; substantial experience in managing and developing major research print and digital research collections; and budget management and planning experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build strong ties to the faculty. Experience working in a team-based environment and providing effective leadership for a diverse staff. Capacity to thrive in a changing environment and to foster that capacity in others. Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year, plus eleven (11) paid holidays.
